Did you know that in 2017, Vancouver residents were paying an average of $114 a month for their energy bills?
Whilst this wasn’t the highest in the country it would still be nice to be able to knock a little off those bills.
The good news is there are HVAC systems that can help you save money. One such money saver is a zone control system.
Read on to learn more about this system and how it can save you money.
What Is a Zone Control System?
Put simply a zone control system is a heating or cooling system that can control areas of your home.
Traditional heating and cooling systems have a single thermostat for the entire home. It means if you want your living room to be 20 degrees, your whole house will get warmed to that same temperature.
With a zone control system, you can have your living room at 20, your bedroom at 22 and your kitchen at 18, all running from a single system.
How Does It Work?
There are different types of zone control systems, but the basic principle is the same.
Instead of a single thermostat, the system has a thermostat for each individual zone. Each zone also has its own heating or cooling controls to turn on the heating or AC. You set each individual zone as you desire, and the zone control system does the rest.
How Can It Save Me Money?
This might all sound very clever, but how can it save you money? Well, there are a couple of ways.
Only Use Heating or Cooling Where You Need It
Traditional HVAC systems heat or cool your entire home at once. If you want your living room warm, you have to have your whole house warm, even if you’re only using one room.
With a zone control system, you only heat or cool the zones that you want to heat. It means you don’t need to waste money cooling that spare bedroom that no one is using, or heating up the kitchen when it’s already nice and toasty from your cooking.
Many of these systems can use presence detection to automatically turn off when you leave home too, saving you even more money by not heating or cooling an empty home.
Extend the Life of Your HVAC
Since your HVAC system is only providing heating or cooling when and where it’s needed, it doesn’t need to work so hard.
That means your entire system gets a lifespan boost; you should find that it lasts much longer before you need to replace it.
